The Beauty Way of Birth
By Michelle Peterson
Why has something so beautiful been made into something so fearful?
I am in my 40th week of pregnancy on Thursday. 40 weeks--9.5 months--this is a long time to be in this experience. I knew immediately upon becoming pregnant that I would be choosing a homebirth. The reason for this is that I intuitively knew it was the best choice for me although I had no experience with home birth, midwives, or the process of birth. I have never attended a birth, and have only seen them really in movies. You know the token scene where a woman is going about her daily activities and then her water breaks or she goes into deep cramps 'out of nowhere' as if she did not see it coming and is rushed into the hospital in a frenzy as if she has been catapulted into some kind of emergency situation. She then screams in agony while the doctors tend to this 'emergency'.
Thing is, I don't feel like this is an emergency, this is the blessing of life.
The other thing is, I know my body, I know my health, and if there should be an imbalance, I would know, and make choices to correct it. In the event that I know that I require the hospital, then I would go about it, but not blindly. Let us not enter into this blessing so blindly. A powerful doorway awaits, and that is the beauty way of birth.
For 100s of years women have been giving birth. Animals give birth. Life breathes life. It is our Creator that guides this process. It is our alignment with Creation that guides us. Does a horse rely on the veterinarian to give them an epidural and to pull their baby out with a scalpel? In most cases, most cases, there is no intervention necessary. Why can I compare a human with a horse? Simply this, the horse is not thinking or worrying, it is acting in alignment with it's true nature.
We are women; we know how to give birth. We also know how to feel deeply. We know how to breastfeed. We know how to have incredible orgasms without the intervention of 100 different strange mechanisms. We know how to receive help. When we are in alignment with our TRUE nature.
However, in many cases, we have been taught, that we do not know how to give birth. That when we are acting strongly emotionally we are being a bitch or crazy. That breastfeeding is not necessary and that a manmade formula is better for our babies. That we need help to have orgasms. That we have to do everything and take on everything.
How is it that we are taught that we cannot give birth? Well, look at what the movies show you. You are told that your body is unable to deliver this being without the intervention of an obstetrician who has never witnessed a natural birth before they deliver their first baby. Their first action implies your nature doesn't know best as if things aren't moving along as quick as they'd like, they induce your labor. Which means, they chemically stimulate contractions via the injection of a chemical called Pitocin basically telling you that your uterus, your baby, your body, and your God consciousness, does not know how to do this. They then, due to the incredibly painful nature of falsely stimulated contractions, tell you that you 'shouldn't suffer' and give you an epidural up your spine which slows the contractions. Due to first very unnatural forced contractions to the uterus they're implying for you not to trust, and then the slowing of them as well as the drugs which basically numb your whole lower body, you now cannot feel the process, you and your baby are drugged, and your baby often will go into distress. At this point, they will tell you that they need to do a c-section due to fetal distress. This unfortunately is a story I have heard from many women who were not given a choice, and whose labor was rushed because she was not progressing at a rate that the doctors liked.
Of note---this is in some cases. Recognize I am addressing the cases in which a woman is not given a say and is treated like a medical emergency. The point of this illustration is every action taken is telling a woman "Your body and baby doesn't know what to do, so we will do it for you".
Please tell me, why would our Creator give us bodies that are able to create lives, only to have someone put chemicals into us to facilitate the arrival of Creator's most beloved Creation? It's an insult to our Creator to insist that we must always be so involved in this process.
Then there is the business of formula. Why on Earth would we be given these beautiful, fruitful, breasts, leaking milk before the baby even arrives, to dry them out and feed our baby a powder? Again, why would Creator give us the ability to bear milk, only for us to create something 'better'? This again, makes no sense.
There are cases, always cases where people need assistance and I am in support and gratitude for when that is. However- I implore that you recognize the purpose of these words. As a woman, you know how to receive a sperm into your egg, and create and bear life. You are a magnificent work of Creation alongside your beloved man. You create life, and you have a body that knows how to release it, naturally, yes naturally without having your beautiful yoni manhandled and cut open. Your body knows how to stretch, and release, and breathe life into this world with great joy and natural ease.
How do I know this if I have never had a baby? I know this because I am a child of God. I have been created to receive life, to give life, and to be supported in love. I do not need manmade materials to function as a woman; Creator gave me everything I needed.
There are of courses cases when women are high risk, there are cases where c-sections save lives. I am sure I could write a whole article on those statistics. However this is not the direction I am illustrating. There are also many cases where a woman does not have a choice, does not know she has a choice, and does not try to have a choice. At least become informed, understand what hospital procedures are if you choose a hospital, study your body and how the uterus functions during birth, witness and watch birth videos, interview your doctor and have a informed list of questions. Research homebirth, read the statistics. Ask your self, your body, and your baby, what is best for us? Know how magnificent your body, your baby, and your Creator is, and make an empowered, loving choice.
Something so beautiful has been made so scary. It is sacred.
It is my intention, to bring back the understanding to women, that you know exactly what to do, guided by the Creator that created you, oh so beautifully. This is about informing yourself and making empowered choices, not blind ones. Inform yourself, listen to your body, listen to your choices, and choose from your knowing---do not put it in the hands of another.
